Certification Requirements

In Tennessee, crane and rigging safety is governed by federal OSHA regulations. The 29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC outlines that employers must have their crane operators certified by a qualified entity. The certification is specific to the employer and the equipment they own. 

While state-specific licensing requirements beyond adhering to federal standards do not exist in Tennessee, many local employers require or prefer the NCCCO certification for crane operators and riggers. Operators must obtain certifications for each crane type and complete periodic recertification.
