NCCCO Lift Director Training

Lift directors are essential to any lift. They are responsible for overseeing all load-handling projects and implementing lift plans. They also confirm that all staff members possess the proper qualifications required to maintain compliance while performing the team's duties efficiently. Every lift has a director, even when not officially assigned.

We offer training to prepare students to earn their Lift Director certification through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO). This course covers the essential topics assessed on the CCO exams. This training takes place over four days, during which you walk through lift planning procedures, load chart calculations, equipment limitations, and more. Since this is an advanced certification, it is highly recommended that attendees have ample experience or certification in the crane specialty they are going for and rigging.

Customized Lift Director courses are available to meet the experience level of your team and the equipment you use. All relevant CCO certification exams are included in the program. Our program will equip your team with the skills, techniques, and knowledge necessary to effectively fulfill their lift director requirements and propel your operation toward success.

NCCCO Lift Director Training

While lift directors do not directly operate cranes, they must have a thorough understanding of operating principles and calculating capacity limitations. To the point where CCO previously required lift directors to pass crane operator written exams for the equipment they would direct Even though CCO eventually removed the written exam requirements.  Candidates still need a thorough understanding of site preparation, lifting operations, and interpreting lift plans, including for single and multi-crane lifts.

Candidates must master the following topics to pass their Lift Director Mobile Crane Specialty Exam:

  • Site: Candidates will have to understand site safety considerations for safely setting up mobile crane operations, such as identifying and addressing hazards associated with lifting operations, determining the appropriate matting/cribbing, identify hazards related to the ground or surface conditions, and identifying hazards associated with site access and transportation.
  • Lifting Operations: Address potential special lifting operation hazards such as those associated with multiple load line lifts, pick and carry operations, and assembly/disassembly.
  • Lift Plans: Candidates must possess a thorough understanding of interpreting lift plans for single and multi-crane lifts. This includes understanding how to interpret load charts for lattice boom and rough terrain hydraulic cranes, applying knowledge of site factors that can affect lifting operations, and more.
